Kroyler started the session by stating his goal: he likes to teach in a way that everyone in the room, from white to black belt, can take something away. He starts basic and advances from there.
Among other techniques, Kroyler taught:
- A butterfly guard pass to knee-on-stomach.
- A knee bar (even if he defends in the conventional way).
- A rolling calf-crush.
- How to take the back.
- Cross choke from behind (this was especially nasty).
We concluded with rolling, in which I (Charlie) got Macarrao-swept by Kroyler.
Attendees traveled from as far as Boston and Virginia to train with Kroyler. His uncle, Marcio Stambowsky, was also on hand to assist.
On the Saturday following the seminar, Kroyler attended the CTBJJF Fall Championship in New Milford, CT before heading back to Indiana.
