Matt Frank is a white belt in BJJ, but is in the middle of testing for his black belt in the ABD system. He has two amateur Muay Thai fights under his belt.
“I like how hard jiu-jitsu is and how I get beat up in jiu-jitsu and how you have to think in jiu-jitsu and I’m not very good at thinking. And I like the teachers and the process and getting choked out by every single person, white belt, black belt, brown belt, purple belt, blue belt, and getting dismantled.”
“My favorite move in jiu-jitsu is that one that I did where I, what was it called, the flying armbar thing? I forget what it’s called. Where I did it like this, that one?”
“The person I like to roll with most is maybe Jason Fife, because he doesn’t beat the crap out of me, but he does, but he teaches me stuff too. Yeah, I’d say Fife.”
“Jiu-Jitsu has taught me that you have to always be humble, no matter if you think that you’re good at one thing, you could be awful, extremely awful at another thing. You could think aw yeah, I’m so good at this, I can punch, I can do this really fast, really well, then you go to jiu-jitsu and get dismantled by white belts and everybody. It’s extremely humbling. I like it.”
Matt Frank is taking a little time off jiu-jitsu to focus on his ABD black belt test, but we can't wait to have him back on the mat!
